STEVE POTTER: violin/mandolin. A regular on the Plymouth/ west country music scene for over 35 years, Steve has played a huge range of music, from Renaissance to rock via morris and barn dances. Simultaneously playing in top 80s covers band ‘Driven By Italians’ and ceilidh band ’Eddy Stone and The Lighthouses’ after having a number one hit in Portugal with indie band ’The Catholics’, Steve moved on to ‘Mad Dog McRea’ precursors ’My Earthly Twin’ before joining Geoff in ’Speakeasy’. He is currently the only person living to have played the ‘Crossroads’ theme tune to its star Noelle Gordon from a hot-air balloon and was musician for the first Morris side to dance on Crete! Steve (often with Geoff) has played all over Europe, from all the Celtic nations to Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Latvia. |
GEOFF LAKEMAN: duet concertina, vocals and spoons. Father of a virtual folk dynasty - youngest son is Seth Lakeman, elder brother is Sean who plays guitar in Seth’s band and middle brother is piano-playing Sam who is married to Irish singing sensation Cara Dillon. Geoff was in a duo with wife Joy - mum of the three Lakeman brothers - on the London circuit. Later they moved to Somerset and played the Bristol clubs and all around the area.. Residents at the renowned Navy pub folk club on Plymouth's historic Barbican and Dartmoor’s Folk on the Moor club, Geoff and Joy were mainstream performers in the south west in the 80s in ‘Dockyard and Warships’. They performed on TV and radio and at many festivals and folk clubs. Geoff also fronts the hot 20's/30's tin-pan alley trio ‘Speakeasy‘, with Steve Potter and guitarist Steve Redman. |
PETE ACTY: six-string guitar and five-string banjo. A classic, percussive finger-pick guitarist , Pete is equally at home accompanying English or Irish folk songs and tunes, Appalachian , blues or ragtime. He is a mean American-style frailing banjo player too. Geoff and Steve were thrilled to discover him "hiding" on their doorstep in the wilds of Dartmoor after about five years away from the music scene. They've lured him back onto the live music scene. A long musical career has seen Pete working with names like Ian Giles and Paul Sartin, and he was a founder member of much-loved folk band, ‘Magpie Lane‘. For years a regular session musician at Oxfordshire’s Woodworm recording studios he’s played on at least 15 albums. |
